Discussing Apple Company is always a rich material in any business management book. The company provides different examples of the management theories and practices that I covered in my study. Whether it was talking about the decision of outsourcing and Offshoring, analyzing the vertical or the horizontal integration in their supply chain, applying the Lean concept and many more.
The most interesting thing about this book, Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson, is that it is not a boring narrative for the key milestones in Apple Company or just the main events in Steve Jobs’ life. The book provides balanced facts and information about Steve’s personal and professional life. Moreover, the book proofs that great companies are not the results of great management systems; great companies are the results of having great leaders.
If there is one reason why I love reading, then it is literally because of the inspiration that I have after reading such books. I believe that the study materials that were presented during my study were incomplete. Management schools should start introducing such books within their curriculums so students can grasp the two parts of the success equation; the management theories and the great minds who lead them.
I always wonder what is the true source of motivation for such an extraordinary people? and what would be the best amount of reward for them? Steve Jobs put it precisely when he said: “the journey is the reward”! I wish if I can remember this for the rest of my life and to just learn to trust the process and enjoy the journey
Maybe Apple’s commercial in 1997 “Think Different: Here’s to the Crazy Ones” summarizes Steve’s life:
“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
Steve was crazy enough to change and is still changing nearly all aspects of our life.
A highly recommended book!
